GGU-SLAB: Signs and designations

The following rules apply to signs:

  • Downward displacement w [m] positive.
  • Rotation phi(x) [radians1] = rotation around the x-axis is positive clockwise (direction of view for increasing values of x)
  • Rotation phi(y) = rotation around the y-axis is positive clockwise (direction of view for increasing values of y)
  • Point load P [kN] positive downwards
  • Moment mxx = moment generating stresses in x-direction, positive clockwise (direction of view for increasing values of y)
  • Moment myy = moment generating stresses in y-direction, positive clockwise (direction of view for increasing values of x)
