Classical water pressure approach

For in-situ concrete walls, water pressure can affect the active and passive sides of the wall. The classical water pressure approach is illustrated in the following figure:

However, the classical approach does not take the permeability of the soil into consideration. The gradients on the active and passive sides are obtained by assuming a linear reduction in pressure around the wall.
